PATRICK "GOGO" GOMEZ

As a coach, Patrick Gomez has worked with hundreds of athletes from every background and has been mentored by some of the best coaches in the world.

 

Coach Gomez has worked with athletes from age groups of 12 to 70. As Lead Trainer and Program Designer at Higher Ground Running in Oklahoma City, he helped to take the business from an idea to the premier treadmill studio in Oklahoma and the first of its kind, catering specifically to endurance runners. Gomez was responsible for creating hundreds of daily fitness classes, group marathon/half marathon training programs, as well as personal training programs. Between personal and group training programs, Patrick Gomez has coached over 250 individuals who have seen an average improvement of 10-minutes in the half marathon and 24-minutes in the full marathon.

At the NCAA level, Coach Gomez has worked with the best. While at the University of Virginia, Patrick was mentored by Vin Lananna, holder of 11-NCAA team titles and president of USA Track and Field. Between UVA and Oklahoma, Coach Gomez has helped produce 2 top 20 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, 3 conference champions and 72 conference scorers. Gomez has also worked with elite post-collegiate athletes, coaching two athletes to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. 

 

As an athlete at the University of Oklahoma, Gomez finished 3rd in the Big 12 Championships steeplechase in 2014 and was on teams that finished top 12 in the NCAA on four separate occasions. Coach Gomez is still an avid runner, currently training for road races and ultramarathons. In his post-collegiate career, Gomez has gone on to win the 2016 OKC Memorial Marathon, 2019 Charlottesville 10 miler, 2021 Lost Falls 50K and finished in 2nd at the 2021 Ultra Race of Champions 50K .
